Clinician FAQs

Questions from clinicians. Answered.

How Prado works for clinicians, from building plans to verification and getting meals to patients.

Getting started

What is Prado?

Prado lets clinicians prescribe medically tailored meals. You build a nutrition plan in minutes, and meals matched to that plan are prepared by trusted local food merchants and delivered to the patient's door every week.

Who can use Prado?

Licensed clinicians who provide nutrition care, including registered dietitians, physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. Clinician groups, telehealth platforms, and health systems can roll Prado out across their teams.

What does it cost?

Prado is free for individual clinicians. Organizations get a program scoped to their population; talk to our team for details.

Can I sign up today?

We are opening clinician accounts soon. Join the waitlist and we will reach out as soon as your account is ready.

Building plans

How are nutrition targets calculated?

Prado calculates calorie and macronutrient targets from published standards, using equations such as Mifflin-St Jeor or Katch-McArdle when body composition is available. Condition-specific rules for diabetes, hypertension, lipids, renal function, and GLP-1 therapy layer on top. You review, adjust, and sign every plan.

How long does a plan take?

Most plans take under five minutes, so they fit inside the visit.

Can patients swap meals?

Yes. Patients can swap meals for options that still fit their plan and allergen list.

Does Prado work with my EHR?

Prado works alongside your EHR. You keep charting where you chart today, and Prado handles the plan and the meals.

Credentials and payments

Why do you need my NPI?

We verify every clinician against the national NPI registry before plans can be sent to patients. If you do not have an NPI, you can upload your credentials for review instead. You can skip this at sign-up and finish it later from your profile.

Why do you ask for business and bank details?

Payment processors are required to verify the business that receives payouts from patient orders. These details go only to the processor, encrypted. You can skip this at sign-up, but you cannot send a meal plan until it is complete.

How do patients pay?

Patients review their week and check out through Prado. Payment with pre-tax HSA and FSA dollars is coming next.

Patients and privacy

How do patients get their meals?

You send the signed plan, the patient gets an invitation, reviews their matched week, and checks out. Meals arrive at their door weekly.

Where is Prado available?

Availability depends on where our food merchants deliver. Tell us your state when you join the waitlist and we will confirm coverage.

Is patient information protected?

Yes. Prado is built for HIPAA, and patient health information is protected as described on our Security page.
